  8.        2.  _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n__I_n_f_o_r_m_a_t_i_o_n

  10.        This chapter lists supplemental information to the _I_R_I_S
  11.        _S_o_f_t_w_a_r_e _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n _G_u_i_d_e.  The information listed here is
  12.        product- and release-specific; use it with the Installation
  13.        Guide to install this product.

  16.        2.1  _M_i_n_e_S_e_t__a_n_d__I_R_I_X__r_e_l_e_a_s_e_s
  17.  
  18.        MineSet can run on IRIX 6.2, 6.3, and 6.4.  While the same
  19.        MineSet software runs on these releases, some auxiliary
  20.        software may need to be installed depending on the release
  21.        of IRIX that you are running.
  22.  
  23.        Each release requires certain IRIX patches for correct
  24.        operation.  Patches should only be installed for the
  25.        releases specified, they should not be installed on other
  26.        releases.  The patches included with the release are current
  27.        at the time of the distribution, they may be superseded by
  28.        future releases.  Also, patches may contain multiple
  29.        components, some of which are not suitable for an individual
  30.        system.  For example, some may contain 64 bit libraries,
  31.        which are not appropriate on systems where 64 bit libraries
  32.        are not installed.  In general, you should only install
  33.        those patches that do not create installation conflicts.
  34.        Patches are not installed by default, you must explicitly
  35.        choose to install them.

  37.        On IRIX 6.2 systems, patches 1535 and 1840 should be
  38.        installed.  On IRIX 6.3 systems, patch 2037 should be
  39.        installed.  On IRIX 6.4 systems, patch 2107 should be
  40.        installed.  Additionally, patch 1946 and 2107 should be
  41.        installed on Origins running IRIX 6.4 and patch 2771 should
  42.        be installed on Octanes running 6.4.  More information on
  43.        these patches is provided later.

  45.        For the graphics tools to save or print themselves several
  46.        image tools and libraries are required.  These are included
  47.        in the standard distributions for IRIX 6.3 and IRIX 6.4, but
  48.        were not included with the original IRIX 6.2 distribution,
  49.        and thus are included with MineSet for 6.2.  These include
  50.        ifl_eoe.sw.c++, imgtools.sw.tools, and eoe.sw.gltools.

  52.        Depending on the distribution medium with which you get
  53.        MineSet 2.0.1, there may be four distribution directories,
  54.        "dist", "dist6.2", and "dist6.3", and "dist6.4".  Installing
  55.        from dist will run a script that will choose the correct
  56.        distribution directory for your release; you should choose
  57.        OK when the script runs.  Alternatively, you can install
  58.        from the correct distribution for your release.  All

  80.        The MineSet product is comprised of base, client, server,
  81.        and books components.  It includes these subsystems:

  211.        If you are installing this product for the first time, the
  212.        subsystems marked ``default'' are the ones that are
  213.        installed if you use the ``go'' menu item.  To install a
  214.        different set of subsystems, use the ``install,''
  215.        ``remove,'' ``keep,'' and ``step'' commands in _i_n_s_t to
  216.        customize the list of subsystems to be installed, then
  217.        select the ``go'' menu item.

  272.        IRIX.  You do not need to use the miniroot. Refer to the

  278.        MineSet requires several IRIX patches for correct operation.
  279.        The specific patches to be installed depend on the IRIX
  280.        release that you are running.  The patches included with the
  281.        release are current at the time of the distribution, they
  282.        may be superseded by future releases.  Also, patches may

  284.        for an individual system.  For example, some may contain 64

  293.        this patch may result in the Tree Visualizer core dumping
  294.        when navigating through the scene.

  296.        Patch 1840 is a fix to the Motif libraries.  Without this
  297.        patch, the tool manager or the Tree Visualizer may core dump
  298.        when bringing up a color chooser.  Also, tearing off menus
  299.        in the visual tools, and then reopening the files may result
  300.        in a core dump.

  302.        2.5.2  _P_a_t_c_h_e_s__f_o_r__I_R_I_X__6_._3  IRIX 6.3 requires patch 2037.

  336.        MineSet_server.sw.datamove requires eoe.sw.svr4net, which is
  337.        available as part of the standard IRIX distribution.

  339.        All Visualization tools in MineSet_client require
  340.        ifl_eoe.sw.c++ versions 1.1.1 or later, imgtools.sw.tools
  341.        version 3.0 or later, and eoe.sw.gltools (any version).
  342.        Note that these versions were not released as part of the
  343.        original IRIX 6.2 release, but are included as part of the
  344.        MineSet 6.2 distribution.

  346.        All Visualization tools in MineSet_client require Open
  347.        Inventor 2.1.1 Execution Only Environment

  361.        The monitor capability of MineSet_client.sw.mapviz and
  362.        MineSet_client.sw.treeviz (which allows automatic rereading
  363.        of data when a file is updated):  Requires
  364.        desktop_eoe.sw.fam to be installed.  Since use of the
  365.        monitoring capability is optional, the installation process
  366.        does not enforce this prerequisite.

  399.        2.7  _D_e_f_a_u_l_t_s__F_i_l_e_s

  401.        The Tree Visualizer, Map Visualizer, Scatter Visualizer,
  402.        Splat Visualizer, Rule Visualizer and Data Mover store
  403.        several defaults files in the directories
  404.        /usr/lib/MineSet/treeviz, /usr/lib/MineSet/mapviz,
  405.        /usr/lib/MineSet/scatterviz, /usr/lib/MineSet/splatviz,
  406.        /usr/lib/MineSet/ruleviz, and /usr/lib/MineSet/datamove,
  407.        respectively.  These files provide default values for many
  408.        tool configuration options.  A default option can be
  409.        overridden either by resetting the value in a tool
  410.        configuration file, or by creating a .MineSet directory in
  411.        your home directory and placing defaults files in there.

  413.        files.

  415.        For typing convenience, the symbolic link /usr/lib/mineset
  416.        has been created to point to /usr/lib/MineSet, and the two
  417.        can be used interchangeably.
